Are You Seeing Stars?

Are You Seeing Stars?

I have been! One of the newest raves in Rustic Country is the large Metal Barn Stars that are being used to adorn about everything! Frankly, I LIKE the trend!

These Rustic Metal Stars are popping up everywhere and are a great way to add a rugged country look to your home. I've been seeing these stars on just about everything and anywhere. They are a sign of a Country Welcome!  On the outside, I have seen stars on porch walls, barns, the side of a house, on a gate, and inside, in rustic displays, above fireplaces, well anywhere you want to add a splash of Rustic!

The meaning of metal barn stars in Amish country can be traced back to the 1700s, and to at least the 1820s in Pennsylvania. On many older barns one could see a large decoration in the shape of a star mounted on the face of the barn that represented the trademark of a specific barn builder.

The original metal star shapes were a three- or four-pointed star but that has changed throughout the years. The barn star has changed over the years too, at first stars were built directly onto the barn. Later the stars were crafted from wood as a separate piece of artwork.

Presently they are made of varying grades of metal. Usually, a 22 gauge galvanized metal (the thickness of a dime) is used to ensure the best quality barn star available and it won't rust on you.

While many folks assign "meaning" to the barn stars, we think that they are simply a wonderful decorative accent and that they look great on barns, homes, garages, or anywhere indoors.

Colors have also been given "meanings.  Below you will find the colors and meanings of metal stars:
